Tien VO MD Foundation

Empowering Communities Through Medicine, Education & Service

OUR FOUNDATION

What is the Tien VO MD Foundation?

The Tien Vo MD Foundation is the philanthropic and educational initiative established by Dr. Tien Vo, a physician and community health leader in Imperial Valley, California. Through scholarships, community health programs, and thought leadership, the foundation advances Dr. Vo’s lifelong commitment to empowering underserved communities through medicine, education, and service.

Founded on the principle that healthcare and education are inseparable pillars of community well-being, the foundation channels the values that have defined Dr. Vo’s career into structured programs with measurable impact. From the farmworker communities of Calexico to university campuses across the United States, the foundation’s reach extends far beyond the walls of any single medical practice.

The foundation operates under the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education without the crushing weight of financial burden. This conviction is rooted in Dr. Vo’s own experience as a Vietnamese refugee who arrived in the United States at age sixteen with limited English and even fewer resources, yet went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree and build a healthcare network serving tens of thousands of patients annually.

At its core, the foundation is organized around four content pillars that reflect Dr. Vo’s philosophy and expertise: Community-Centered Medicine, Leadership and Healthcare System Building, Mental Health and Whole-Person Care, and Culture, Identity, and the Physician Journey.

THE FOUNDER

Who is Tien VO MD?

Tien Vo, MD, is a physician, healthcare entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose career spans more than fifteen years of service in some of California’s most medically underserved communities. As the founder of Legacy MD Medical Group, EasyAccess Care IPA, and the foundation, Dr. Vo has built an integrated healthcare ecosystem that combines clinical excellence with deep community engagement.

Dr. Vo’s journey from Vietnamese refugee to respected physician and community leader is one of the most compelling narratives in contemporary American healthcare. Arriving in the United States in 1992 at the age of sixteen, he faced the daunting challenge of learning English while simultaneously completing high school and community college coursework at Cypress College.

Today, Tien VO MD is recognized nationally for his frontline work during the COVID-19 pandemic, when his clinics performed more than 27,000 coronavirus tests in Imperial County — a region that experienced California’s highest per-capita infection rate. The Associated Press dubbed him a “rock star doctor” for his tireless efforts.
